We have an exciting opportunity for an Estimator to join a team in the Hertfordshire area.


The Estimator Role Will Include

• Working as part of a team on the company’s Planned Maintenance Social Housing and Refurbishment projects
• Promoting the company ethos of working in an open, honest and transparent manner at all times
• Taking responsibility for ensuring that work is delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the agreed quality whilst exceeding client expectations, minimising risk and maximising the opportunity for Chas Berger and its clients
• Understanding, implementing and adhering to the company SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality) ethos and ensuring all employees and subcontractors do the same, as well as being responsible for ensuring the SHEQ requirements are upheld to the highest of standards at all times


Estimator Main Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Commercial Manager/Commercial Director
• Responsible for the financial preparation of bids for the business
• Work in partnership with the bid team throughout the pre-construction and bid process
• Ensure bids are risk assessed and reported to the commercial director
• Prepare submissions in the agreed format consistent with the company branding
• Present submissions to the senior management team for review
• Manage handover of successful bids to the delivery team
• Provide feedback and responses for the delivery team to assist with any post-tender queries
• Preparing the cost components of the proposal, as well as having an understanding of the task, planning, assessing past performance and personnel in partnership with the management team
• Attend meetings with Client, Designers, Project Managers and relevant stakeholders as required
• Manage the supply chain to ensure competitive quotes are obtained
• Ensure supply chain quotes are checked to ensure compliance with the tender documents
• Manage tender clarifications throughout the bid process
• Measuring & ‘Taking-Off’ quantities from drawings

Estimator Skills and Knowledge Required
• Confident oral and written communication skills
• Financial and commercial awareness
• Communicate effectively with all relevant stakeholders
• Effectively manage time in order to meet deadlines
• Mentor and support others
• Ability to negotiate and influence
• Previous experience within Estimating
• Must have planned maintenance and refurbishment experience
• Up to date relevant knowledge of building legislation
• Up to date relevant knowledge of Health and Safety legislation

Estimator Working Hours

• Monday to Friday, 8am to 5 pm with 1hr lunch
• 25 days’ annual leave excluding public holidays

Experience Required 

The successful candidate will have at least 5-6 years’ experience in this role already. 


£60,000 (depending on experience)
